Book Synopsis

Behind the operating theatre doors

Under the Lights: An OR Nurse's Journey of Vigilance, Responsibility and Care.

Under the Lights takes readers behind the closed doors of the operating theatre and into a world that patients rarely see. Drawing on nearly four decades of experience in perioperative nursing, Theresa Noor shares a deeply personal and professional journey shaped by patients, colleagues, challenging moments, leadership, and the realities of caring for people at their most vulnerable.

This is not simply a book about surgery or medicine. It is a story about people: the nurses, surgeons, anaesthetists, technicians, and support staff whose combined knowledge, communication, vigilance, and compassion create a safe surgical environment.

Through reflection and lived experience, Theresa explores the quiet moments that can make a profound difference: the importance of noticing what others may miss, speaking up when something doesn't feel right, supporting colleagues under pressure, and never allowing experience to become complacency.

At its heart, Under the Lights is a story of compassion, resilience, teamwork, responsibility, and humanity. It invites healthcare professionals to reflect on the values that guide their practice, while giving members of the public a rare glimpse into the dedication and emotional commitment that exist behind the operating theatre doors.

Most importantly, the book is a tribute to the patients who placed their trust in the surgical team, and to the healthcare professionals who continue to show up every day with skill, courage, and compassion.

Some stories are about what happens in the operating room. This one is about the people who make it possible.
